Here’s a quick multi-grain white sauce recipe that my toddler absolutely loves. It’s healthier, doesn’t contain all purpose flour or corn starch and yet tastes the same. Actually, better because it takes less than 15 minutes to make.
Ingredients:
100 grams butter
1/cup wheat flour
1/2cup Jowari flour
Chopped garlic
1 cup cream
100ml milk
1 cup grated unsalted cheese
Italian herbs ( available in the market in dried form)
Method: In a pan, add butter and chopped garlic. Mix well. Add the wheat and jowari flour and keep stirring. Let the flour turn slightly brown. Add one cup water and keep stirring again so it doesn’t form any lump. Once it’s thick add the grated cheese and cream and mix well. Now add the milk. Add salt and the Italian herbs. Mix them well and cook on low flame. Adjust the thickness of the sauce as per your preference. You can add more milk to make it thinner.
Once the sauce is ready, you can use it for various things: Pasta, steamed vegetables, roasted chicken, etc.
Note: I have used a small tea cup for measuring. Also, use pasteurised cheese as that’s safe for toddlers. You can store the sauce for up to five days in the refrigerator and use as per your requirements.
