To My Daughter

by Amrita Saraf / Thursday, 16 July 2020 / Published in My reflections, Poetry

I want to freeze time, and pause my moments with you…
I want to inhale your baby smell, until I can’t smell anything else…
I want to love you until I have no more love to give, and then love you some more, because my love for you is endless… I want to hold you and never let you go…
But you are not mine to keep, you are your own person…
And soon you will be chasing after your own adventures…
You are my saving Grace,
But saving me is not your burden to carry…
I am your Mamma, but you owe me no duty…
Raising you is a privilege, as will be watching you have a mind of your own…and standing up for what you believe is right for you…
So let me cherish this moment, let me rejoice in the sound of the word “Mamma”, which is the sweetest word in the world for me…

Let me always remind you, that I was your first Home…and I will always be your safe place… but let me also remember, that you make me a better person in so many ways…

Happy Mothers’ Day to my Bubba, who is truly teaching me the subtle art of not giving a f*&k .
